Granules rather than liquid, which matters in a standing-water sink: liquid floats and dilutes, granules sink to where the blockage actually is.

Wear gloves and keep it away from children — this is the one product in the line that deserves a shelf of its own, high up.

How to use it

Remove standing water from the basin with a sponge. Pour 50–100 g into the drain and immediately follow with half a litre of hot — but not boiling — water. Leave for 15 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with cold water. Repeat for a stubborn blockage; if it persists after the second try, call a plumber.

Worth knowing before you buy

  • DANGER. Causes severe skin burns and eye damage. May be corrosive to metals.
  • Wear protective gloves, eye protection and protective clothing. Do not breathe the dust or fumes.
  • If it gets in the eyes: rinse cautiously with water for several minutes, remove contact lenses if easy to do, keep rinsing, and call a poison centre or doctor immediately.
  • Hot water, not boiling — boiling water with this product is the mistake people make.
  • Contains sodium hydroxide.
