Fireplace glass goes black from the inside, and it isn’t ordinary dirt. Soot bakes onto the pane through a whole season of burning, and by spring it has turned into a hard, greasy film that a wet cloth just smears around.
This is a solvent, not a general cleaner. Spray it from about thirty centimetres onto cold or barely warm glass, leave it to work, then wipe with a soft sponge. Heavy build-up takes a second pass.
Two practical notes. Wear gloves — the formula is strong, and that is the point of it. And the bottle comes without a spray head: it is sold as a concentrate refill, so the trigger from an old cleaner screws straight on.
The best time to do this is before you light the first fire of the season, while the fireplace is still cold.
