Two hundred and fifty washes out of a half-litre bottle is the number that made me look at this line at all. A few drops, not a squeeze.

The snail slime is there for the washing-up done without gloves — it is a soothing, emollient ingredient, the same one used in skincare. If you would rather have a plant-based formula, GreenDish is the same bottle with myrtle soapwort extract instead.

How to use it

Dilute 2–3 ml — about a teaspoon — in 5 litres of hot water. Or put a few drops on a wet sponge and squeeze until it foams. Wash, then rinse the dishes thoroughly.

Worth knowing before you buy

  • DANGER. Causes serious eye damage and skin irritation.
  • The snail slime is there for washing up without gloves, but the label still advises gloves and eye protection.
  • If it gets in the eyes: rinse cautiously with water for several minutes, remove contact lenses if easy to do, keep rinsing, and call a poison centre or doctor immediately.
